How to turn off Bitlocker (De-crypt drive)

NOTE: These instructions are for Windows 10 systems with Bitlocker turned on. Turning off Bitlocker may put your system in a noncompliance state. Noncompliant systems do not have access to USMA controlled Information Systems like CIS or O365 Desktop applications.

  1. On the “Type here to search” box, type “This PC” and press enter.
  2. If you see a padlock icon on top of the hard drive like the image below, your HD is encrypted. If not, then your HD is not encrypted and you can stop here.
  3. Right click on Drive C:\ and select Manage Bitlocker from the menu.
  4. Click on the Turn off Bitlocker link.
  5. The hard drive will begin decrypting. This may take a while depending on the amount of data on the hard drive.
  6. The padlock should disappear once it’s finished.
