How to Reset Multi-factor authentication (MFA)

If a user changed their phone or would just like to change the method they authenticate.

Users can reset their Multi-factor authentication (MFA) by signing into this site and will be able to:

  • Change the Default sign-method
  • Modify/delete the current methods of authenticating
  • Add a new method of authenticating – (Recommended method – Authenticator App)
    • Delete any existing Microsoft Authenticator method
    • Click Add Method
    • Select Authenticator App as the authentication method
    • On the Start by getting the app page, select Download now to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device, and then select Next.
    • Follow the prompts on your issued mobile device to setup Microsoft Authenticator
    • If prompted, allow the app to access to your camera (iOS) or to take pictures & record video (Android). This is required to scan the QR code in the next step.
    • Scan the code with the Microsoft Authenticator App
    • Select Next on the Scan the QR code page – A push notification should be sent to the Microsoft Authenticator app to approve the notification.
    • Once  this screen is reached, Microsoft Authenticator will be used as the default method to verify your identity when using two-step verification or during a password reset.
